Title: Printing with FinePrint error
Post by: Stephen on July 09, 2019, 11:38:11 AM
I tried to print something using FinePrint from my browser which is being run in an isolated environment. I get the following:

!#FinePrint#!
Internal error: Prepare Dispatcher was unable to launch the dispatcher.

and then another message: Print Preview Error: An error occurred while printing.

As a result I cannot print anything from my browser (Firefox) using FinePrint.

The first message also came up once when used LibreOffice and printing did not succeed with FinePrint.

In LibreOffice I also got the ReHIPS dialog in Control Center about how to deal with a program in C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3\fdisp9.exe. even though I allowed it (temporarily) printing was not possible with FinePrint.

Other printing tasks for example Microsoft print to pdf and printing to my printer do not show this error.

Thanks for the report. I've added a ticket, we'll check the issue and come back with more info. It may take some time though.

You use FireFox with default rules? Have it isolated on the main desktop?

Yes, default rules and isolated on the main desktop. I run LibreOffice also with no changes to the default parameters.

Looking forward to any findings/solution.

When do you get the error window? When you press the Print button in your browser, so no FinePrint window is shown?
Or FinePrint window is shown and you press Print in it and error window comes up.

On our test PC I press Print in my browser, FinePrint window is shown, I press Print in it and it hangs. And that's without ReHIPS. So I'm not sure how it should work.

I get the error messsage that I described when I press Ctrl-P, select FinePrint as the printer to use for printing and the click on Firefox's Print button. In this case the FinePrint window doesn't appear at all after the error is shown.

However, running FinePrint with a non isolated application doesn't result in the error that I describe. FinePrint also works with no problem if I disable ReHIPS. In these cases the FinePrint window comes up normally and I can use it to print.

Does any isolated program print with FinePrint?

I tested printing from LibreOffice and Chrome. Unfortunately no printing is possible with FinePrint unless ReHIPS is put in Disabled mode.

Following up on my previous post, FinePrint v. 10.02 is out. Unfortunately the problem that I described earlier still exists: I can only print using FinePrint if ReHIPS is disabled. The batch file on the FinePrint support page may help investigate the issue. I did run it, but it didn't solve the problem.

Yup, finally we could reproduce this issue. Can confirm it's there. Will investigate.

It starts FPDisp dispatcher. Looks like dispatcher tries to install Desktop hooks and panics if it can't install it exiting. And the application that requested printing sees dispatcher unexpectedly exiting without doing anything and complains that it can't start dispatcher. Don't know why they need hooks, but try to allow desktop hooks for the isolated environment.

Thank you. I tried it with LibreOffice and it worked.
